In order to keep pace with inflation and the cost of doing business, In October of 2013 the Jones Public Works Authority Board of Trustees voted to institute an automatic utility rate increase equal to the Federal Governments Cost of Living Adjustment or COLA. In the subsequent years the COLA increase has been: 2014, 1.7%, 2015, 0.0%, 2016, 0.3%, 2017, 2.0%, 2018, 2.8%, 2019, 1.6%, 2020, 1.3%, 2021, 5.9%. COLAs are typically announced in December and take effect the following January.

In July of 2021, the Jones Board of Trustees asked for the citizens’ trust and support a .01c Sales… Continue reading

On this Thanksgiving Eve, I just want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of this holiday.

Everybody has heard the stories from our American history classes about the first Thanksgiving. Are those stories accurate, well that’s a debate for another time and too often we get caught up in the “political correctness” of it all which prevents us from realizing the true meaning of THANKSGIVING. For me Thanksgiving has evolved into a day of reflecting on the past and being thankful for the blessings that have graced me in my life! And, football, of course!

It is with profound sadness that I inform you, that due to the untimely passing of Mike Harcum, the Jones Old Timers Day, scheduled for this Sat. Oct. 2,  is being canceled for 2021.

Mike’s wife Linda Harcum is the Old Timers Day organizer and expert. It would be too time-consuming of her to bring anyone else up to speed in order to pull it off. Linda needs the next several days to grieve and make arrangements.

The Jones Board of Trustees and Town of Jones City offers our condolences to Linda and the Harcum family.

Ray Poland, Mayor

On behalf of the Jones Board of Trustees, I would like to thank the voters of our town for the support and trust you have instilled in us by approving a .01c sales tax increase for the “Capital Improvements” for our town! As stated in our campaign for the tax, we are beginning the process of improving our water and wastewater system. The first step was taken, by both the Jones Public Works Authority and the Jones Board of Trustees, at our Aug. 3rd meeting when we voted to approve the loan application with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.

When you get elected to public office, you do so knowing that eventually you will be called on to make difficult decisions. Last night’s Special Board of Trustees meeting was just that, DIFFICULT. Last night the Jones Board of Trustees voted to terminate Police Chief Robert Williams for cause.

This being a personnel matter I/we cannot comment on the reasons, at this time. We, also, voted to open an investigation into internal Police Department operations.

Please understand this was not an easy decision and was not taken lightly by any member of the Jones Board of Trustees.

Thank you, Ray

Republic Service has informed us the trash service for the Town of Jones will be on Thursday this week.
