99.99% of the time, being Mayor of Jones is an awesome experience. The other .01% is the amount of time I spend reviewing the “Talk Around Jones” Facebook page! “Talk Around Jones” is NOT affiliated with the Town, at all. No one, with any official capacity, from the Town, is the administrator or has any control over its content or comments! I joined the page as a private citizen thinking that it would be a great way to keep up with the happenings of our town. It has evolved into a forum for people to express displeasure with a wide… Continue reading

2019 brings an election to Jones. There are 3 Trustee seats up for election and City Clerk. Currently, the 3 seats are held by Mayor Ray Poland, Vice Mayor Michael Calvert, and Trustee Tyler McElhaney. The Clerk is Tammy Wallace. All seats are “at large” meaning there are no wards and you may live anywhere in the city limits. You must have lived in the city limits at least 6 months prior to the filing period. The only other requirement is you must be 18 years of age. The filing period is Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, through Wednesday, Feb. 6,… Continue reading

As we enter a new year, I take time to reflect on the past year. 2018 brought many challenges for the Jones Board of Trustees.  We had a Police Chief quit and had to hire another, our choice was not without a little controversy, however, we believe we made the best decision. We had an “Order” from ODEQ to boil our water before using due to contamination in our water system. The contamination was cleaned up, but ODEQ still required that we will have to treat our water from now on, unfortunate since we were one of only a few Oklahoma towns that didn’t treat their water. As this is an ongoing task, we will continue to strive to provide the cleanest/safest water possible.

2018 also brought some positive advances. We were, finally, able to convince Cox to run some fiber optic cable in town. Currently, it only serves City Hall and the fire department, BUT, I continue to have conversations with them to expand their service throughout town. I hope to Continue reading

“Statutory Town Board of Trustees”

There seems to be some confusion as to the type of government Jones City operates under. The many forms of municipal government in Oklahoma are: Statutory Town, Statutory Aldermanic, Statutory Council/Manager, Statutory Strong Mayor, and Home-Rule-Charter.

Jones is a Statutory Town with a Board of Trustees. It has been stated that as a Board of Trustees we don’t have a Mayor but a “Chairman” of the board. To clear this confusion up I have included the wording in both the Oklahoma statutes and Jones City Ordinances. Oklahoma Statute 11-12-101 “Statutory town board of trustees form… Continue reading

As we enter today with the excitement of elections, I ask that you exercise your right to vote. BUT, I also ask that you KNOW what you are voting on! Please see through the attack ads, false claims and do your research! If you have not researched the state questions and are uncertain of their implications, then don’t vote on them. Simply voting no on a state question, because you don’t understand it, is irresponsible. Unless you truly believe in every candidate in your respective party, don’t vote straight party ticket. Know the candidates and vote for the one that… Continue reading

Mayor's Message
Welcome to the new and improved Jones website! It is our intent to provide a website that is easy to navigate and get information to our residents as well as those who may be interested in our great community. As it is a work in progress, we kindly ask for your patience!

I am your Mayor Ray Poland and I believe in transparency in government! I also believe many of you feel a disconnect to your city government. Although everything we do is an open record, not everyone knows how to access some of the information they seek. As this page progresses, we will post the agendas for each Continue reading
